Business and Prosperity
Working to provide training for employment and stimulating enterprise
We help people who are unemployed or who are leaving school in search of work, to develop their skills and experience by working on local regeneration projects. We deliver a range of environmental employment programmes which pay apprentices a wage while they work. Placements encompass a wide range of activities from building new play areas, recycling white goods to running kerbside collection schemes. In doing this we help people find permanent jobs and give support to those setting up their own enterprises.
Working to help businesses succeed
We help businesses stay competitive by improving their environmental performance and helping them to develop better community relations. We support them in cutting costs by offering training and advice on resource efficiency and business improvements.
We advise businesses to recognise the benefits of sustainable construction through the development of Eco Centres. We built the first Eco centre in 1996 entirely from materials that are recycled or from sustainable sources. Due to its award winning success, further Eco Centres were planned for the North East. The first of the new centres, The Greenhouse in Stanley was completed in February 2006 and work is underway on the development of two further ECO Centres.
We also support whole business communities to improve their practises and reduce crime.
